Scott Penberthy

Trusted advisor to CEOs and boards on how technology reshapes their business, and what to do about it.

IBM. The Internet. Scott advised CEO Lou Gerstner during IBM's existential pivot to the web. He led how IBM engaged boards and customers on internet technologies, helping leadership understand where it would matter and how to act. This work contributed to a $4B hosting business and the middleware platform IBM WebSphere, which grew to $11B. It repositioned IBM for the internet era.

PwC. The Millennial Workforce. Scott advised CEO Bob Moritz on a generational workforce and technology shift. He aligned 160 territories and 6,000 partners to move from fragmented, locally controlled systems to public cloud. He addressed trust, control, and data governance at scale. He closed the first financial services deal for Google Cloud and enabled a broader transformation of how the firm operated and collaborated.

Google Cloud. AI in Regulated Industries. Scott built an AI partnership with NASA, delivering over two dozen projects and demonstrating practical applications in government environments. He then moved into healthcare and pharma, advising on how AI could improve patient and payer systems. He identified a new opportunity in genomics and drug discovery. This became one of the fastest-growing segments in Google Cloud, alongside securing the first multi-billion-dollar AI-driven contracts in pharma.

Alphabet. AI and the Creator Economy. Scott advises on the impact of generative AI on content, advertising, and creative ecosystems. He helps leadership determine positioning, investment priorities, and responses to disruption as AI reshapes how content is created and monetized.

Boards. Decisions Under Uncertainty. Scott is frequently selected to work directly with boards and CEOs in moments of uncertainty. He clarifies what is real versus noise, where technology creates advantage, and how to move from concept to execution in large, complex organizations. He is typically engaged when leadership teams face irreversible decisions and need someone who has seen the pattern before.
